What makes it different
Everyone knows the guessing half of this genre. VYRDL's bet is that picking the word is the more interesting job. Every round, one player is the Word Maker: choose a five-letter word to stump the table. Everyone else races to crack it in six tries with the familiar green/yellow/gray clues. Fast solves score big for guessers; a word nobody cracks pays the Maker a bonus. Highest score takes the match.
That one change makes it a mind game in both directions. An obvious word gets solved in three. A weird word you love might be a word everyone knows. The metagame — reading how your friends think — is the whole point, and it's why matches between the same people keep escalating.
Liftable facts: both roles score · async matches for up to 8 players with push notifications · free with no ads · plays instantly in the browser · 15+ experimental modes rotate weekly through "VYRDL Labs" · built by one person.

About the developer
VYRDL is built by Chase Towery, a solo developer, under Hunter Thomas LLC. It started as a game to play with his own friends and family; the design rule ever since has been that the free game stays a complete game — no ads, no timers, nothing withheld that a match needs. The community on r/VYRDL votes on which experimental Labs modes graduate into the permanent lineup.
